June 2004    Marina Patronage Grows
The 2003/2004 year ending in June 2004 is aiming to be a record year for the marina with solid growth in both marina and boat yard patronage.

The final stage of the main marina was completed in November last year and despite the fact that over 40 new berths were added, they were all populated within weeks with incoming cruisers. Occupancy has remained high and for the year has averaged over 85%. The marina now has over 200 berths.

May 2004    Hardstand Facilities Upgrade
In line with our goal of continual improvements to the facilities at Scarborough Marina, customers will soon see some changes in the hardstand area. A newer Marine Travelift has been ordered and the number of fully screened pens will be expanded. These improvements of facilities will provide a number of benefits for hardstand users.

August 2003    More Marina for 2003 Season
Scarborough Marina will soon have more berths, with the order being placed for the final stage of the main marina. To cater for the general trend towards larger boats, the previously approved marina plan has been modified to incorporate larger berths and a more flexible layout.

In all, this final section will add 44 new berths to the marina taking a total number of berths to over 200.

August 2003    Marina Office New Offerings
In our continuing efforts to make the marina a welcoming environment for new visitors, we are currently revamping our marina office to include a range of new products and services. Many of our visitors are from interstate or overseas, and do not know the Redcliffe or Brisbane area very well.

Our new office revamp will include a full range of information on the attractions and services offered in the local and Southeast Queensland area. Our goal is to make sure our visitors maximise the opportunities and fully enjoy their stay while in Scarborough Marina.

August 2003    Dredging for Scarborough Harbour
The managers of Scarborough Boat Harbour, the Port of Brisbane Corporation, will be performing maintenance dredging of Scarborough Harbour starting in September. The first stage of dredging will be done with a grab bucket and barge in traditional style.

Of interest is the second stage of dredging which will be done using a new method of envirnonmentally-friendly spoil disposal. The new style dredging involves pumping the spoil into large geotextile filtration bags which allow the spoil to dry out without affecting the land on which they sit. These geotubes are 70M long! Once dry, the material can be trucked away using standard methods.

August 2002    On Boat Internet Access Now Available!
Affordable broadband Internet access is now available to all berths in the marina. The system is wireless and operates at speeds much higher than the dial-up service widely in use. To use the service, you simply need to register at the marina office. The service includes rental of a wireless hub which plugs into your existing computer. Different plans are available for short or long term rental periods.

May 2002    Marina Plans for 2002!
Plans have now been finalised for the continued expansion of the marina in 2002. There will be two stages of construction this year. The first is the further extension of the main north-south K row which will provide additional 15m berths. The second stage is due to be completed in September in time for the beginning of the cruising season. Piling will be required for this stage which will see the construction of G-H row as well as the final completion of the main K walkway.

Enquiries and sales of marina berths have been brisk since the previous installation of E-F rows in November. When fully complete the marina will total 200+ berths. If you are considering purchasing a berth, the time could not be better with orders being now taken for the additional stages. Not all the new berths will be sold, so opportunity is limited. If you are interested give the marina office a ring and ask for a berth sales information pack!

Sep 2001    Port of Entry Status Renewed
In a positive development for the marina, the Australian Quarantine Inspection Service (AQIS) has renewed its agreement with Scarborough Marina for another 3 years. The agreement reaffirms the marina as the official Port of Entry for small vessels entering Australia through the Port of Brisbane. Mr Tony Redrup, Regional Manager of AQIS makes the following comment:

"Cooperation with the community is an essential facet of insuring the protection of our environment from exotic pests and disease. The arrangement with Scarborough Marina has served AQIS and Australia well for over 3 years. We expect that today's renewal will see that partnership reinvigorated with significant benefits for AQIS, the Peninsula community and for quarantine integrity."
